"Letters for Bernstein" premiered at the Sarau do Memorial - Memorial Minas Gerais Vale, as part of the centennial celebrations in honour of the North American composer Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) that wins the stage of the Minas Gerais Vale Memorial - in Circuito Liberdade, this Thursday, 16/8. Considered by critics as a musical genius, he was one of the first American composers to achieve global prestige, besides being considered one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. Bernstein celebrates the centenary of his birth on 25 August 2018. The initiative is part of the Sarau do Memorial programme, and the conception, research and translation of the repertoire is by Marcelo Kuna, who receives the public with free admission at 7pm. Those interested should pick up tickets one hour before the performance.
In this tribute, the concert gains the dramatized reading of some selected letters that Leonard Bernstein sent to his wife, family, friends, besides the exploration of official documents from the White House, which reveal the influence of the composer in culture, society and US American politics.
